Sponsored Programs

At Washington STEM we champion equity and opportunity for all of Washington's students. That's why we've chosen to partner with these organizations and act as their fiscal sponsor. Through shared values and mission alignment, we are proud to help advance this work in the state of Washington.

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship

The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) was created in 2011 to address unfilled seats in the high-demand sectors that drive our economy like aerospace, engineering, technology and health care as well as rising tuition costs at Washington colleges and universities. Businesses and the Washington State Legislature joined forces to fulfill the promise of better education and career opportunities for Washington students. Together they have created a unique public-private partnership, with significant support from founding partners Boeing and Microsoft and matching dollars from the State.

This first-of-its-kind program supports Washington students from low- and middle-income households to attain bachelor’s degrees in high-demand fields including science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) and health care through scholarships of up to $22,500 as well as professional development, skills-building workshops and genuine industry exposure to help increase the rate at which students enter our state's workforce.

Project Pilgrimage

In 2013 a group of the Project Pilgrimage leadership traveled to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma and were deeply inspired by the courageous footsoldiers of the Civil Rights Movement. In going to this sacred American site they met and spent time with all walks of people, sought diverse historical perspectives, identified their place in structures of our history, and they returned to their communities with renewed determination. Project Pilgrimage now believes to their core that by working together — across generations, racial and ethnic histories, gender and sexual identities, economic, educational, and national standings — we are inspired to reach beyond our current visions to build a more just world for all.
